Is this an initial assessment or a renewal?
Knowing this in advance helps us book the right appointment length and check whether any extra steps apply.
Initial assessment
Your first certificate of that class. Initial Class 1 and initial Class 3 medicals must be carried out at a CAA-authorised Aeromedical Centre (AeMC) and are more comprehensive, so they take longer.
Renewal or revalidation
Keeping an existing certificate valid. A revalidation happens while your certificate is still valid; a renewal applies once it has lapsed. Additional steps may apply depending on how long a certificate has been expired.
For the detail, including the 45-day revalidation window and lapsed-certificate rules, see Renewals & Revalidations. This information is general guidance in line with UK CAA requirements and is not individual medical advice.
Before you send your request
What to prepare
Many examinations require you to register and apply through the CAA's online medical records system (Cellma) and pay the CAA fee beforehand. See our preparation guide and what to expect.
How confirmation works
Once we receive your request we will be in touch to confirm availability, the appointment length and exactly what to bring. Nothing is confirmed until we reply to you directly.
