Chaperone Policy
Supporting your dignity, comfort and safety during an examination.
Last updated: October 2026
Purpose
An aviation medical examination may include physical assessment. This policy explains how we protect your dignity, comfort and safety during such assessments, and your right to have a chaperone present. The policy applies to all patients, and to the clinicians carrying out examinations.
Your right to request a chaperone
You are welcome to request a chaperone at any time, for any examination, and you do not need to give a reason. A chaperone is an impartial person who can be present during your examination. We want you to feel comfortable, and requesting a chaperone will never affect the care or service you receive.
What a chaperone does
- Provides reassurance and support during the examination;
- Acts as an independent observer of the examination;
- Helps protect both the patient and the clinician;
- Respects your privacy and dignity throughout.
Availability
We will do our best to provide a chaperone when you ask for one. Letting us know in advance, for example when arranging your appointment, helps us make sure a suitable chaperone is available at your preferred time. You are also welcome to bring a family member or friend as an informal chaperone if you prefer.
Confidentiality
Any chaperone is bound by the same duty of confidentiality that applies to your examination. Information shared during your appointment is handled in line with our Privacy Policy.
How to request a chaperone
